taraweehVirtues of offering tarawih prayer

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to encourage us to pray at night in Ramadan, without making it obligatory. Then he said, “Whoever prays at night in Ramadan out of faith and the hope of reward, all his previous sins will be forgiven.”

When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) died, this is how things were (i.e., Tarawih was not prayed in congregation), and this is how they remained during the Caliphate of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), until the beginning of the Caliphate of `Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).

`Amr ibn Murrah al-Juhani said: “A man from Qudaa`ah came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, “O Messenger of Allah! What do you think if I testify that there is no god except Allah, and that you, Muhammad, are His Messenger, and I pray the five daily prayers, and fast in the month (of Ramadan), and pray at night in Ramadan, and pay zakah?” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever dies on that will be among the siddeeqeen (those who tell the truth) and the martyrs.”

About I‘tikaaf

itikaf-during-ramadanI‘tikaaf is to retire to the mosque for the sake of worshipping Allah The Almighty.

Its ruling is that it is an act of the Sunnah (recommendation) and the basic proof for it is what Allah The Almighty Says (which means): {And do not have relations with them as long as you are staying for worship in the mosques.}[Quran 2: 187]

This verse indicates that I‘tikaaf is prescribed in Sharee‘ah. It has to take place in a mosque in order for it to be valid. Also, it is prohibited for those who are in I‘tikaaf to have sexual intercourse with their wives for as long as they are still in I‘tikaaf.

There are many authentic Hadeeths that also prove this. ‘Aa’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, said, “The Prophet  would observe I'tikaaf during the last ten days of Ramadan until Allah took his soul, then his wives observed I’tikaaf after he was gone.”[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Ibn ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet, , would do  I‘tikaaf in the last ten days of Ramadan:  Naafi‘  said, “‘Abdullaah (Ibn ‘Umar), may Allah be pleased with him, showed me the spot where the Messenger of Allah would practice I‘tikaaf in the mosque.”[Muslim]

Fasting - Its status in the religion and some of its rulings

ramadanO my Muslim brothers and sisters! Fasting the month of Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam.

Fasting the month of Ramadan was enjoined in 2 A.H., and the Messenger of Allah, fasted nine Ramadans.

It is obligatory to start fasting the month of Ramadan by one of two things: the sighting of the crescent or completing thirty days of the month of Sha‘baan. This is based on the Hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, who narrated that the Messenger of Allah, , said: “Start fasting on seeing the crescent [of Ramadan], and stop fasting on seeing the crescent [of Shawwaal], and if the sky is overcast [and you cannot see it], complete thirty days of Sha‘baan.”[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous.}[Quran 2: 183]

The obligation of fasting

Question1: When a girl is supposed to fast?

Answer : A girl must fast when she reaches the age of puberty and complete adulthood, and this occurs by reaching the age of 15 years old, or either by growing up of coarse hair around her genitals, by ejaculation, by menstruation, or by pregnancy. When some of these signs happen to her, she has to fast then even if she is only 10 years old. Since lot of girls may menstruate at the age of 10 or 11,but their family still thinks she's still young, and fasting is no duty or obligation for her yet, but this is wrong since a girl is considered to be already an adult woman as soon as she menstruates , and Allah knows better.
